Steven P. Bennett

Molecular Biology, PhD, Prescott

Lecture Title:
Comprehensive cannabis processing for newly emerging markets.

Bio:
A leading expert in cannabinoid research, processing and product development, Dr. Bennett is a molecular biologist with a background in neurodegenerative disease, opiate receptors and melanoma. He holds two patents and four provisional patents and has published a series of peer-reviewed papers. Dr. Bennett has a PhD in Molecular Medicine from the University of South Florida College of Medicine and a BS in Biochemistry from Eckerd College. Cannabinoid Scientist: My scientific career has focused on the molecular biology of disease, namely Alzheimer's disease (AD), melanoma, and opiate receptors. I consider myself a "bench to clinic" researcher as I am involved in numerous aspects of investigation. My work has led to 2 patents, 4 provisional patent submissions, and several publications over the past decade. I am currently a Visiting Scientist with CU-Anschutz Medical Campus in the department of Neurology with ongoing experiments in the field of Alzheimer's disease. In July of 2015, I became the Scientific Director of Evolab, a Denver based cannabis extraction company focusing solely on the use of sub and supercritical CO2 extraction technology. We have since incorporated fractional distillation, preparative chromatography, analytical chromatography, and medical product development. Additionally, we have initiated an industry-academic hybrid research program with several state universities as well as Canadian universities. The research focuses on the role of cannabinoids and terpenes in various disease paradigms including neurodegeneration, cancer, and pain and spans from cell culture to small animals to clinical studies. We are always looking for the appropriate collaborators in both business and research, so please message me with any questions.

KASHIF SHAN

Founder and CEO of Folium Biosciences

Lecture Title:
The Global Opportunity for Non-Psychoactive Cannabinoids.

Bio:
Folium Biosciences' founder and CEO, Kashif Shan, enjoyed a 2 decade long executive career in high technology where he oversaw finance, facilities, and human resources in the world’s technology capital: San Francisco. He was also involved in 3 public IPOs. In addition to his corporate ventures, he founded Equus Capital, a real estate investment company. The Folium Biosciences story began in 2014, when Kash's own interests in the benefits of CBD developed. He sensed the industry’s explosive potential and knew that producing quality products meant helping the masses combat PTSD, opioid addiction, seizures and depression, just to name a few. As the largest vertically integrated producer, manufacturer, and distributor of hemp derived phytocannabinoids in The USA, Folium Biosciences has grown to become the global leader in non-psychoactive cannabinoids and employs over 200 people. Kash has a personal passion for helping veterans, and at least 10% of his workforce are veterans. Folium Biosciences is a B2B, Bulk & Wholesale supplier of hemp derived CBD oil, CBD water soluble technology, 0.0% THC oil, CBD edibles, and CBD for pets. They proudly supply their unique 0.0% THC phytocannabinoid rich hemp oil to the cannabis industry, cosmetic, personal care, and animal health industry. Folium Biosciences has a 70K square-food facility in Colorado’s La junta which supports its farming operations and a 100K square-food facility in Colorado Springs to manage their growing supplement division. They also have a 40K-square foot extraction facility. Mr. Shan just closed on a new 110K-square-foot facility, also in Colorado, to develop pharmaceutical operations. Construction on a facility in Canada marks the beginning of Folium Biosciences international expansion. This industry leader also ships their 0.0% THC white label, bulk and finished products To 26 countries around the world.
